Maynooth University Bookshop-Assistant Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Assisting the Manager in the day to day running of the bookshop. Daily duties will include management functions, opening/closing shop, ordering stock, providing training, performing administrative duties.

Hours: 40 p/w term time (August-May), flexible hours available for off term time (June & July)

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Manager and lead the team with all aspects of sales and service
  • Open and close the shop.
  • Perform day end cashing up of tills and reconcile any discrepancies
  • Ensure that window and in-store displays are always full and visually appealing
  • Ensure work and customer areas are safe and tidy.
  • Manage staff rosters
  • Provide training to junior staff.
  • Maintain and oversee shop related pages on various social media platforms and provide regular supply of new content.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service
  • Order stock as required working with the manager

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience in retail environment
  • Positive and outgoing manner when dealing with customers
  • Ability to work well in a small team and to think proactively about ways to engage with and support colleagues
  • Motivated, efficient, with a positive and proactive manner
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office Package, Social media platforms)
  • Ability to work well under pressure, especially during busy periods, when all the team are required to work across many aspects of the shop and balance large workloads

Desirable experience:

  • Previous bookselling experience
  • Experience working in a management or team leadership role
  • Experience working with e-commerce platforms (such as Squarespace, WooCommerce, WordPress, Shopify, or bespoke selling platforms)
  • Illustration / design abilities (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
